Silver and Bronze for Otago at UTSNZ 3x3 Nationals

The University of Otago enjoyed a strong showing at the UTSNZ National Tertiary 3x3 Championships, with both the men’s and women’s teams returning home with medals after an impressive weekend of competition.

The University of Otago women’s team claimed bronze after defeating the University of Canterbury in the third-place playoff. Representing Otago were Alexa Duff, Fay Fualau, Tia Pavihi and Millie Simpson, coached by Alf Arlidge. The group showed resilience and consistency throughout the tournament, finishing their campaign on a high with a deserved podium finish.

The men’s team battled their way through to the grand final before eventually falling to Lincoln University to secure the silver medal. Kaden Bracey, Patrick Freeman, Jack Hollingworth and Boston Paerata represented Otago, with Sam Fielding leading the side as coach. The team produced a number of strong performances across the event and were narrowly denied the championship in the final.

Individual honours were also awarded to two Otago athletes, with Patrick Freeman and Alexa Duff both named in their respective All-Tournament Teams following standout performances throughout the competition.

Basketball Otago congratulates all players and coaches involved on an outstanding tournament and for representing the region with pride.
