Mercury have etched their name into Basketball Otago history, claiming the inaugural Patston Media Women's Rush League title.
The evening began with two very close semi-final matchups that saw Mercury defeat Wahs, and Spartans take down Rush City to advance to the Grand Final.
Semi Finals
Mercury 39-36 Wahs
Another strong performance from Wahs' Zoe Richards (14 points) wasn't quite enough to cancel out the balanced scoring display from the eventual champions, with all but one player getting on the scoresheet.
Rush City 34-37 Spartans
An intense matchup between Rush City and Spartans was decided by small margins. Rush City's Alexa Duff and Fay Fualau-Searle combined for 26 points but it was the one-two punch of Maddie Kerr (11 points) and Abby Harris (13 points) who helped their side across the finish line.
Grand Final
Mercury 40-22 Spartans
Both semi-finals had clearly taken their toll on the teams, but despite a determined effort from Spartans’ Freya Roberts (11 points), Mercury proved too strong in the final. Elise Gilbert led the way with 14 points, while Ruby Fox and Kiana Brown added 10 apiece to complete a dominant performance and secure the inaugural title.

Leading Scorers
Zoe Richard (Wahs) - 14.75 ppg
Alexa Duff (Rush City) - 13.25 ppg
Aria Brown (Miners) - 12.4 ppg
Basketball Otago would like to thank all players, coaches, staff, supporters and sponsors who helped make the inaugural Patston Media Women’s Rush League such a success. We are excited to see the competition continue to grow and evolve in the years ahead.
