Rush League Roundup: Week Two

Week two of the Patston Media Women's Rush League delivered another exciting night of action and even more thrilling contests. With combinations starting to click and competition for league positions heating up, every game carried significance.

Round Three

Spartans 41-29 Miners

The Spartans carried over their momentum from round two with another victory over the struggling Miners. Abby Harris and Otago U18 representative Bella McEntyre lead from the front with 12 points each.

Miners were bolstered with the debuts of Otago U20 and U16 representatives Shanti Kara and Aria Brown, but it wasn't enough to bring the side their first victory of the competition.

Wahs 31-32 Rush City

A late surge from Rush City helped them topple the Wahs. Zoe Richards (17 points) once again led all scorers but it was Alexa Duff (13 points) who secured the vital winning basket for Coach Mike Spencer's side.

Seagulls 21-24 Mercury

Mercury survived a scare from the Seagulls to continue their unbeaten start to the competition. It was a tense low scoring affair with Ruby Fox's free throw in the final seconds that put the final nail in the Seagulls' coffin.

Round Four

Seagulls 43-32 Wahs

The Seagulls regrouped quickly to finish an even 1-1 on the night and 2-2 overall so far. Otago U16 representative Eva Gardner stepped up with 9 points to help her side over the finish line.

The Wahs will be disappointed to have come close in both of their games in week two, but performances from Zoe Richards (13 points) and Legacy Harrison (11 points) will provide a spark of optimism.

Rush City 31-45 Spartans

The close win in round three appeared to take the steam out of Rush City in this game. Contributions from Otago U16 representatives Matauaina Lima (6 points) and Zkaria Pasese (5 points), once again show the development opportunities that this competition provides for young female hoopers.

However, the Spartans surge continues with another win thanks to double-digit performances from Bella McEntyre (12 points), Abby Harris (10 points) and Maddie Kerr (10 points).

Mercury 37-34 Miners (OT)

The final game of the evening was a thriller as Mercury continue their unbeaten streak and finish week two at the top of the standings.

The Miners fought valiantly and a perfectly drawn up sideline play from Southern Hoiho Head Coach, Todd Marshall, was well executed to force overtime. However, the wait goes on for their first victory in the competition.
