Two of Otago's rising talents took their games offshore for the 2025/26 season, with Laura Ring and Elise Carline testing themselves in the North American collegiate system.
From adjusting to a new style of play and balancing the demands of study and sport, the pair have gained valuable experience across their respective seasons. As their campaigns have now wrapped up, we take a look back at how Ring and Carline fared and the impact they've made on the court during their time overseas.
Laura Ring - Central Wyoming College (NJCAA - USA)
A graduate of St Hilda's Collegiate in Dunedin, Laura Ring returned to Central Wyoming College for her second season, putting together another impressive all-round campaign.
Building on her first year in the programme, Ring established herself as a key figure for the Rustlers, combining physicality on the glass with a consistent offensive presence. Across the season, she averaged 13.8 ppg, 8.9 rpg and 2.4 apg, highlighting her ability to impact multiple areas of the game. Whether it was finishing inside, cleaning up the boards or creating opportunities for teammates, Ring proved to be one of Central Wyoming's most consistent and reliable contributors.
The Rustlers finished the year with a 15–15 record, competing hard throughout a demanding schedule before their season came to a close in the Region IX Tournament against Lamar Community College. Despite the defeat, Ring rose to the occasion producing a strong double-double performance of 13 points and 14 rebounds to lead her side’s effort.
Durability and consistency were hallmarks of her season. Laura featured in all 30 games and earned the starting nod in 29 of them, underlining the trust placed in her by the coaching staff. Her second year in Wyoming not only showcased her development on court, but also reinforced her ability to perform at a high level in a competitive college environment.

Elise Carline - Mount Royal University (USports - Canada)
Already an established talent in New Zealand, Elise Carline arrived at Mount Royal University with strong credentials, having represented the Junior Tall Ferns and Southern Hoiho.
In her freshman season, Carline adjusted to the demands of Canadian college basketball, earning valuable court time and featuring in sixteen games - making two starts. An average of 4.6 ppg and 5.9 rpg, a strong return as a rookie, highlighted her presence and willingness to do the work required at the next level.
The Cougars finished the season with a 10-11 record, competing week in and week out in one of Canada's toughest conferences. For Elise, the year represented an important foundation, gaining experience against high-level opposition while continuing to develop her game in a new environment.
