Southern Talent Unites at Hoops Camp

Wānaka recently played host to the inaugural Southern Elite Performance Camp, bringing together the top young basketball talent from across the southern region of New Zealand.

Basketball Otago was proud to see a strong contingent, with a total of twenty five representative players attending the camp. The event also featured five coaches from the Otago region, including professional players, representative coaches and local high school coaches. Their presence added invaluable expertise and guidance for the young athletes.

Hosting the camp in Wānaka - a key part of the Basketball Otago region - highlighted the growth of the game in local communities and the opportunities available for players outside of the main centres.

Founder of the camp, Beth Mackie, a former Otago Gold Rush player, said: "It was amazing to see the talent from Otago, Southland, Eastern and Central combine in Wānaka last weekend. We hope this camp will lay the foundations for future collaboration between our regions and we look forward to welcoming more athletes, coaches and families to Wānaka in the future."

Basketball Otago remains firmly committed to growing the game across our entire region. From our cities to our smaller communities, we are focused on creating meaningful development opportunities for both athletes and coaches.
