The BNZ Kiwi Hoops programme is continuing to make a powerful impact across the Otago region, with more than 1,300 tamariki engaged through in-school delivery during Term 1 alone.
BNZ Kiwi Hoops is Basketball New Zealand’s national introductory programme, designed to create positive first experiences in basketball. Through fun, inclusive activities and games-based learning, the programme supports tamariki to build fundamental movement skills, develop confidence and foster a lifelong love of the sport.
The strong Term 1 participation numbers reflect both the enthusiasm of young players and the commitment of local schools and Basketball Otago in bringing the programme to life. Sessions are tailored to be engaging and accessible for all skill levels, ensuring every participant has the opportunity to be active, learn and enjoy the game in a supportive environment.
Will Hopper, Basketball Otago's Pathway Development Manager, said "For Basketball Otago, the success of BNZ Kiwi Hoops is a key pillar in growing the game from the ground up. By introducing tamariki to basketball in a fun and engaging way, the programme is helping to build a strong foundation for future players, coaches, officials and fans."
With momentum continuing to build, BNZ Kiwi Hoops is proving to be a golden pathway for youngsters in Otago. For any schools interested in this fantastic programme, please contact Will Hopper for more information: will@otago.basketball
