Basketball Otago is delighted to announce the coaching appointments for our 2026 senior representative teams. With a strong mix of experienced coaches continuing on from the 2025 season and respected coaches returning to the programme, we are excited about the leadership in place for the year ahead.
U20 Men: Sam Fielding
Sam Fielding returns for another season with the U20 Men after guiding the team to significant improvement in 2025, highlighted by a 5th place finish at BBNZ Nationals. Building on that momentum, Sam will be aiming to take the group even further in 2026.
U20 Women: Alf Arlidge
Also returning is Alf Arlidge, a highly respected coach who needs little introduction. Under his leadership, the U20 Women finished 6th at BBNZ Nationals in 2025, and with several key players returning, the upcoming season shapes as an exciting one for the group.
U18 Boys: Maine Mareko-Johnson
We are delighted to welcome Maine Mareko-Johnson back to the representative coaching roster. Following successful previous tenures within the programme, Maine will be looking to continue that success with the U18 Boys in 2026.
U18 Girls: TBC
We are currently seeking a passionate and committed coach who is keen to embrace the challenge of representative basketball. If this opportunity is of interest, please contact will@otago.basketball
U17 Boys: Matheson Colquhoun
As part of a slight restructure to the representative programme, Matheson Colquhoun has been appointed Head Coach of the newly-formed U17 Boys team. Basketball Otago is excited to see this group develop and compete in its inaugural season.
U16 Boys "A": Kalas Taukamo
After a brief period away, we are thrilled to welcome Kalas Taukamo back to the rep programme. Having led this cohort of athletes in 2024, Kalas is looking forward to reconnecting with the group and continuing their development in 2026.
U16 Girls "A": Markham Brown
Markham Brown also returns to the age group he coached in 2024. With many players having experience at BBNZ Nationals, this shapes as a highly anticipated season for the U16 Girls "A" team.
U16 Boys "B": Bobby Brown
Bobby Brown continues his representative coaching journey after leading the U16 "Dev" team in 2025. He is excited to further his progression within BBO's coaching pathway while working with another talented group of athletes.
U16 Girls "B": Aimee Lynch
After a short stint with the U14's in 2024, Aimee Lynch steps up to lead the U16 Girls "B" team in 2026. She is looking forward to continuing her development within the coaching pathway and supporting the growth of this group.
More information regarding trials and team structures will be released in the new year.
