COVID-19 update from Basketball Otago

Following the NZ government’s announcement yesterday about COVID-19, here is an update regarding Basketball Otago’s position.

The NZ government yesterday asked that all public gatherings, including sporting activities, be cancelled or postponed for the next month where there are 500+ people involved.  As such, Basketball Otago is postponing the Zone 6 tournament this weekend due to the high numbers of players, officials, and spectators involved.

Over the next month there are no other basketball activities that involve significant numbers and currently these activities are scheduled to go ahead as normal, however we are currently undertaking an ongoing review and assessment of this situation in discussion with the Edgar Centre, Basketball NZ, and on further advice from the NZ government.  In the meantime we would like to reinforce the need for increased awareness and practice of good hygiene protocols, and draw your attention to the information about this in the link below from the NZ government.

We will review our position on this on a daily basis and will keep the basketball community updated with any further information or changes.
