Steven Adams appears poised to visit Dunedin.

It is understood the New Zealand NBA star will run a basketball camp in the city in August.

He is one of New Zealand sport’s biggest names and it will be the first time the Oklahoma City Thunder big man has held an event in Dunedin.

The camp is set to be midweek during the second-last week of August. However, exact dates and length are still to be confirmed.

Previous camps around the country have typically had 350-400 spots available and often sell out within 10 minutes. Those have been open to 7 to 17-year-olds.

Local coaches will probably also get the opportunity to participate.

Dunedin lawyer and sports agent Warren Alcock confirmed that he had been in discussions with camp organiser, the Sporting Pathways Trust, for about a year.

However, he said things were not quite finalised.

He would meet the trust’s key figures - including former Otago Nugget Rob Tuilave - next week.

There were some final logistical and financial boxes to tick before it could be 100% confirmed.

“Once I can sort those I’m confident the camp will come to Dunedin,” he said.

“It would also be a great opportunity for Steven and some players and staff from the Oklahoma City Thunder to see some of what Dunedin has to offer.

“They have expressed an eagerness to go fishing - we might be able to introduce them to the kina delicacy.”

He added the camp would be “fantastic for the basketball community” in the city.
